For some, nothing stirs the heart more than Venices languid
beauty. This unique city of color and light, built 15 centuries
ago on sandy islets located at the mouth of the Adriatic Sea,
still seduces in a way few other cities can. Whether its
sauntering up the quay of the Grand Canal at dusk, enjoying a
favorite Titian canvas all by yourself in a quiet little parish
church, or marveling at how tiny cubes of colored glass and gold
form some of the world’s finest byzantine mosaic work, the
visual delights of Venice are unparalleled.
If you want to immerse yourself in the artistic treasure chest
of this exquisite city, then come and experience Venice in the
best possible way--with an art historian as your private guide.
Your guide will lead you to the most famous Venetian jewels, held
in the citys museums and churches. But she will also provide
you with some very unique experiences.
You will be invited to see the artistic masterpieces hidden behind
the walls of one of Venices most sumptuous palaces, still
privately owned by a Venetian countess. Further, you will be given
private instruction in the art of the Venetian mosaic, as well
as attend class at a local mask-making school.
Note: as an option for the less artistically inclined in your
group, arrangements can be made to spend the morning observing
the artisan craft of gondola construction, or a local artist who
paints at Venices colorful fish market.
Finally, visits to important local galleries, as well as a private
guided tour of Venices own Accademia Museum, will be included
in the itinerary. Along the way, your guide will recount the magical
story of the city and its masterpieces, allowing you to fully
experience the exotic riches of an art lovers Venice.
