Sitting at the foot of the Alps, Lake Como enjoys an unsurpassed natural
beauty which has attracted visitors for centuries. The lakeshore is dotted
with palm trees thriving side by side with Mediterranean pines, exotic
gardens, sumptuous villas and simple fishing villages, all framed by the
snow covered Alps towering above. Join Capritime to experience the
highlights of this marvelous city and its renowned lake.
Choose from among the following for a fabulous day tour of Lake Como or we
will gladly combine a few to create a custom vacation package specific to
your interests:
Orientation Stroll
Enjoy a guided walk through the lake's most important town which was built
by the Romans. This historic walk takes in both the 14th century
Cathedral (faced entirely with marble), as well as the 12th century San
Fedele, a church built in the classic Romanesque style. Silk making -
upon which the town made its fame - is part of this tour, as well as a
ride up the funicular above the town where views take in all the Alps
(including the Matterhorn) and, weather permitting, as far south as the
Cathedral of Milan!
Bellagio: Behind the Scenes
Unquestionably the 'Pearl of Lake Como,' Bellagio sits majestically on the
promontory which juts into the heart of the lake and offers spectacular
views of the entire lake and surrounding mountains. This guided stroll
takes you not only through the town's tiny alleys and crossways, but also
through the little hamlets dotting the promontory which make up the town,
ending with a visit through the renowned gardens of Villa Melzi.
Private Boat Tour of Central Lake
A tremendous way to get the feel of Lake Como is from the water and via
your own boat. This privately guided tour takes in all the villages of
the central lake region, as well as your choice of either Villas Carlotta
or Balbianello (where 'Ocean's 12' was filmed). A classic trip for anyone
who wants to see why Lake Como deserves its reputation.
Lunch at Locanda Isola Comacina with Private Boat Tour
From President Kennedy, Alfred Hitchcock to George Clooney and his film
crew, a meal at Locanda Isola Comancina is a requisite with a visit to
Lake Como. The only island on the lake, Isola Comancina is about the size
of two football fields, and has only one structure: the restaurant. This
wide-open, rambling wood and stone structure is a real "down home" affair
with long wooden tables and benches, and serves a fixed menu of 12
different plates of local specialties. Your meal concludes with a lighted
brule (or café) as the owner recounts a famous battle on the island in the
1200's and who is forced, by superstition, to keep the oral tradition
alive.
This trip includes a guided stop at either Villas Carlotta or Villa
Balbienello on your way down the lake to lunch, as well as your private
boat back. Your guide leaves after getting you settled for lunch.
Full Day Private Boat Tour On Lake Como
This tour encompasses the best of the entire lake, including boating past
the lake's more famous Villas (Heinz, Versace and George Clooney), as well
as the Grand Hotel Villa D'Este. As most of these gems are hidden from
the windy road along the lake, the only way to view the villas and their
gardens is by private boat.
You disembark at the town of Como, where a short guided tour orients you
to the town, showing the highlights, and then you'll have time to wander
on your own before setting sail back up the lake.
