Capri's world-wide renown is largely due to the success of Munthe's
History of San Michele, which
has been translated into over 40 languages. Our second walk
will take us up to beautiful Anacapri to the Villa San Michele.
Built by the Swedish physician Axel Munthe in 1880, Villa
San Michele is now a museum which incorporates archaeological
findings and Roman artifacts excavated from the island with
the ruins of a small chapel dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo.
The villa is surrounded by spectacular gardens and offers incredible
views of the peninsula and sea.
After lunch in Anacapri, we take you on a tiny path immersed
in vegetation looking out to the sea at every turn. At the end
of the path, we find the Chapel of Cetrella, a 14th century
late Gothic-style convent. It is only open due to worshippers'
volunteer work.
